Tinguaite is an alkaline vein leucocratic rock. It belongs to the family of feldspathoid syenites. It includes: potassium-sodium feldspar (45%), nepheline (35%), aegirine (about 20%), apatite, sometimes biotite and alkaline amphibole. Used as an ornamental stone. Only on the Kola Peninsula is found the so-called "tortoiseshell" tinguaite - the most decorative variety of tinguaite, named for the similarity of the pattern. Named after the Brazilian province where it was first discovered.
