Tenorite is predominantly a supergene copper mineral, its simple oxide occurring in crystals (having an acicular appearance) is extremely rare. Usually presented as earthy masses in the zone of oxidation of copper sulfide deposits in association with other copper minerals. A minor mineral of copper ores that does not form its own deposits.
