Rhodochrosite (manganese spar) is another name for "Inca rose". Legend has it that this stone is the blood of ancient rulers. It first became known in the 13th century, when it began to be mined in the mines of America. Contains manganese, which determines its color. It has perfect cleavage, which makes it difficult to use in jewelry. Forms both crusts and crystals. Very decorative. Poorly tolerates weathering, turning into other minerals. Formed in hydrothermal veins, also found in deep-sea sediments. It is the extreme member of the isomorphic series of rhodochrosite-siderite in terms of the ratio of manganese-iron in the composition.
