Axinite is a mineral that got its name from the ancient Greek "ax" - for the sharp shape of the crystals. Has a piezoelectric effect. The composition of axisnite is not constant; the content of iron and manganese in it can fluctuate. Therefore, the name "axinite" does not mean a specific minspecies, but is a generalized name for several minspecies of the axinite group.
