Diopside is a mineral from the pyroxene group. Forms an isomorphic series with hedenbergite, being its extreme member. Characteristic of skarns. It has a magmatic or contact-metamorphic nature. It has varieties:

     Anthochroite - light pink,
     Baikalite - dark or bluish green,
     Lavrovit - bright green,
     Violan - purple or blue,
     Chrome diopside - transparent emerald green.
